College Basketball versus High School Basketball
The person behind college basketball was Dr. James Naismith with the help of his colleague C.O. Beamis. Together, the two was able to field the first ever basketball team for about a year right after the game of Springfield YMCA held at the suburban of Pittsburgh Geneva College. In the year 1901, several colleges including Columbia University, University of Chicago, University of Minnesota, Dartmouth College, University of Colorado, the U.S. Naval Academy as well as the Yale University started sponsoring a basketball game for men.
The first ever national men basketball championship tournament was named as the National Association of Intercollegiate Basketball tournament which is known today as NAIA or the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics was tournament that was first organized in the year 1937.
