Football leagues being the best sports in the world, it has fan following in millions. Barclays Premier League is ranked at first in terms of excitement because it is the only football league where even a smaller club can create miracles and could win the title on the basis of performance. Most recently, Leichester City won the Premier League title through their outstanding performance.

Though, most of the people did not know about Leichester Club for being a hub of such talented and hard working players. In the last decade, it appeared for the first time in Premier League and was glorified as Barclays Premier League champions. When it comes to other football leagues such as La Liga, Bundesliga and Primeira Liga etc, their history has not witnessed any ordinary club winning the title.

There is also an international system against which the ranking of top football clubs is evaluated known as UEFA coefficient ranking system. The football clubs are evaluated on the basis of their performance. Spanish La Liga is ranked at 1st with highest 101 points of UEFA coefficient whereas; Bundesliga appears to be 2nd with 79 points and Premier League on 3rd with a points scoring of 76. Now, I am going to dwell on the top football leagues in the world.

  1. Barclays Premier League

It is a football league contested by the top 20 football clubs from England. Each team has to face the each other opponent twice on their home ground and once on the home ground of the opponent. A total of 38 matches are held. Leichester City, being a newbie football club of Premier League were able to won the title this year 2015-2016. The Premier League season starts from August which continues till the mid of May every year.

The national football league contested by the top 18 football clubs of Spain is called La Liga which operates on the basis of promotion and relegation. The last three teams are relegated into regional football league while the top three clubs from the regional league fit into their place. A total of 34 matches are held in the league. Each time has to play twice its opponent on home and away ground. The recent title winner of La Liga for the current year 2015-2016 was Barcelona. However, this football league also starts from August which lasts till May of every year.

It refers to the football league played by the top 18 German football clubs every year. It operates through a system of relegation and promotion. The last three teams are relegated into the domestic level football league while the top three football clubs are promoted and given a chance to play in Bundesliga. The tournament contains a total of 34 matches to be played between the 18 football clubs. Every team has to play twice the opponent at own and their home grounds. The seasons usually starts from August and runs till the month of May. The defending champions for the current year of 2016 is Bayern Munich who has won the most titles in their history.

It is a national football league contested by the top 18 teams of Italy. A total of 34 matches are to be held. Each team has to twice the other opponent. Likewise all the other national football leagues, it is also based on the principle of promotion and relegation. However, the current year champion is Juventus.

  1. Primeira Liga

The Primeira Liga is a football league contested by top 18 football clubs of Portugal. It is also based on the system of Promotion and Relegation as the three teams from the bottom are relegated and the top three clubs from the regional level league are promoted into Primeira Liga. Each team plays twice the other opponent on home and away ground. Benefica were the crowned champions this year.
